Artist Statement

Watercolor painting takes me to a timeless place. I am submerged in color, space, and form but I am not contained by a moment. In these turbulent times, I am free. As a painting major in college, I worked in oil, acrylic, and gouache. Now I am in love with the watercolor medium itself: vibrant colors that wake up the eye, subtle blends that melt into singular hues. A wet brush is still a thrill. For subject matter, I love figures and faces, working to capture both individual and human identity. I am drawn to waterscapes, balancing reflective and translucent qualities. In still life, plants and fruits are my vital forms. When my brush touches my subject matter intimately, I feel successful.
