Artist Statement

As an artist, my roots run deep into the rocky soil of the Maine coast, where my family lived for generations. Surrounded by the ever-changing moods of the landscape, I was captivated by the interplay of light and color in the natural world. For as long as I can remember, I have been immersed in drawing, painting, crafts, and devouring all the paper I can get my hands on. While attending art school, I explored every 2D and 3D medium in my various studio courses, but paint was then and continues to be my favorite. The satisfaction of pushing the thick paint around and mixing so many subtle, beautiful colors is sublime. Through careful observation and a deep appreciation for the natural world, I seek to convey the textures, colors, and moods of my subjects in a way that is both truthful and evocative. My approach to realism is loose and fluid, allowing for a certain amount of interpretation and spontaneity in my work. I believe that this style allows me to capture the vitality and energy of my subjects, while also creating a sense of movement and depth in my compositions. Through my work, I hope to inspire others to see the beauty and wonder that surrounds us every day, and to reconnect with the natural rhythms and cycles of the world around us. After a long career as a design manager for an education company, I’m delighted to be showing up at the easel every day. Being a full-time artist was my childhood dream; at last, I’m able to make it my reality. When I’m not painting, I can be found digging in my garden or hiking as many wild and beautiful places as I can. Follow my art journey to see what I’ve been up to: https://www.instagram.com/judi.pinkham/ https://www.judipinkham.com Education Painting Major Bridgewater State College BFA Massachusetts College of Art Art Teaching Certificate Massachusetts College of Art Memberships 2023 Newton Art Association 2021-2022 Wayland Art Association
