Martha Heller

Martha Heller lives with her husband in Newton, Massachusetts where she has a studio and gallery in her home. Her textile pieces evolve from explorations of materials and techniques and include art quilts, textile sculptures, wall hangings, framed textile, and paper collage. A career creating theatrical costumes and volunteer hours with the historical costume collection at Blithewold Mansion in Rhode Island have a strong impact on her sculptural work that examines the dynamics between constructed garments and artistic expression. Martha strives to maintain a sustainable art practice by using primarily repurposed materials and natural dye processes. She is a proud member of i3C—Inspiring Change for the Climate Crisis—a group of 22 artists inspiring action for change through their art practices and collaborative exhibits. Martha has exhibited at her work in galleries and museums including The Belmont Gallery of Art in Belmont MA, Gallery 263, Cambridge MA, The Mosesian Center for the Arts in Watertown MA,  The Kathryn Schultz Gallery/Cambridge Art Association in Cambridge MA, The Attleboro Arts Museum in Attleboro MA, The Appalachian Center for Craft in Smithville TN, LexArt and Gallery Twist in Lexington MA, and Umbrella Arts in Concord MA.
