SUMMARY:CALL FOR ART: 2025-2027 NAA Volunteers Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR ART: NAA Volunteers Exhibit\n \n ONLINE SUBMISSIONS\n \nA Special Exhibition Opportunity for NAA Volunteers\nThe Newton Art Association is delighted to announce a new exhibition partnership with Attacca School of Music in Belmont and we are especially pleased to offer this opportunity as a thank-you to the volunteers who have generously supported NAA over the past 12–18 months.\nAttacca School of Music provides a welcoming and creative environment for students\, families\, musicians\, and teachers. Its owner is also a longtime supporter of NAA who has purchased artwork from our exhibitions in the past. Through this new partnership\, Attacca is excited to bring the visual arts into its school and introduce the work of NAA artists to its community. \nCommunity Supporting Community\nThis exhibition has an especially meaningful community connection.\nAttacca is enthusiastic about promoting the selected artwork and helping connect interested buyers with participating artists. For any artwork sold through the exhibition\, NAA’s customary 20% commission will be donated in full to Attacca School of Music’s scholarship fund\, helping support access to music education for students in the community.\nIt is a wonderful opportunity for artists\, musicians\, and two local arts organizations to support one another. \nWho May Apply\nThis special call is open to NAA members who have volunteered with Newton Art Association within the past 12–18 months.\nWhether you helped with an exhibition\, reception\, installation\, check-in\, check-out\, event\, or another NAA activity\, we hope you will consider submitting your work.\nThank you for the time and energy you have given to NAA. This opportunity is for you. \nSelection\nApproximately 11-12 artworks will be selected for the exhibition.\nBecause Attacca knows its space\, students\, families\, and school community best\, final artwork selections will be made by Attacca School of Music.\nDue to the limited number of works that can be displayed\, submission does not guarantee selection. \nExhibition Details\nTheme: In Harmony\nHarmony exists not only in music\, but throughout the visual world—in color and contrast\, movement and stillness\, people and places\, nature and our everyday surroundings. Artists are invited to interpret In Harmony broadly and personally. Work does not need to depict music or musicians; rather\, we encourage submissions that explore balance\, connection\, relationship\, rhythm\, or elements coming together to create something greater than their individual parts. \n\nLocation: Attacca School of Music\, Belmont\, MA\nEligibility: NAA members who have volunteered within the past 12–18 months\nNumber of works selected: Approximately 11-12\nSales: NAA’s 20% commission on artwork sold will be donated to Attacca School of Music’s scholarship fund< li>\nSubmission Deadline: Friday\, October 16\, 2026\nNotification Date: Wednesday\, October 28\, 2026\nExhibition Dates: November 2\, 2026 – February 8\, 2027\nDrop-Off / Installation: November 2\, 2026\nPick-Up: February\, 8\, 2027\n\nWe are excited to begin this new partnership with Attacca School of Music and especially pleased that our first exhibition there can recognize the volunteers who help make NAA’s programs possible.\nThank you for supporting NAA and for helping us extend that spirit of support into the wider arts community.

SUMMARY:MEET & MINGLE: Forming an Art Critique Group
DESCRIPTION:MEET & MINGLE: Forming an Art Critique Group\nThank you to everyone who responded to the Meet & Mingle Survey. Your feedback will be incredibly helpful as we create the programs you’ve asked for. \nTo kick off the new year\, our first Meet & Mingle will focus on creating and joining art critique groups. We’ll hear from a panel of members who are already part of critique groups and learn about the different ways their groups are structured and what makes them work. \nAfterward\, you’ll have a chance to connect with other members who are interested in forming a group. Hopefully\, by the end of the evening\, you’ll be well on your way to joining—or starting—a critique group of your own. \nWhat better way to start the new year? \nLocation:\nBrigham House\n20 Hartford Street\nNewton Highlands

SUMMARY:DEMO: Mitch Albala - Seeds of Abstraction
DESCRIPTION:DEMO: Mitch Albala – Seeds of Abstraction\n \n ZOOM LINK\n \n All painting\, both representational and abstract\, employs the same formal elements — things like shape\, pattern\, color\, composition\, and movement. In this special presentation\, landscape painter\, instructor\, and landscape painter\, instructor\, and bestselling author Mitchell Albala will discuss how those formal elements are prioritized differently in abstract and semi-abstract paintings than they are in representational work. The talk includes a slide presentation followed by Q&A and discussion. Also discussed will be the “Playbook\,” a practice that encourage one to focus more on ideas than “things.”\nThe focus will be on semi-abstract works that blend representation and abstraction\, offering insight into where representation leaves off and abstraction begins.\nmitchalbala.com \nSilent Sound\nGorge\nTondo \nTopic: Mitch Abala – Seeds of Abstraction demo Time: Oct 8\, 2026 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meetinghttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/82018262403?pwd=O6jS1eJ4SXQWX4xrOu2Xua0ExsL8bo.1 \nMeeting ID: 820 1826 2403Passcode: 724804

SUMMARY:PD: Ingrid Christensen - Becoming the Artist You Are Meant to Be
DESCRIPTION:PD: Ingrid Christensen – Becoming the Artist You Are Meant to Be\n \n ZOOM LINK\n \nThere’s such an array of styles and genres of art that finding your place in the art world can feel overwhelming. We can fall into the trap of chasing styles that turn out to be both unproductive and unsatisfying. Drawing on examples of work that feel deeply rooted in the people who made them\, Ingrid will open a conversation about how such authenticity takes shape. Along the way\, she will explore practical ways artists can begin to recognize and bring forward their own instincts and interests in their work. \nJoin Ingrid for this lively and practical presentation that will help you block out unhelpful advice and fruitless avenues to discover the artistic path that’s right for you. \nIngrid Christensen is\, first and foremost\, a painter of light. Her work is an ongoing exploration of light’s ability to elevate even the most mundane object into the glowing subject of a painting. Ingrid focuses on still life and figurative genres\, painting from life whenever possible\, but knowing that all paintings are\, ultimately\, the work of memory. In the time it takes to make a painting\, flowers fade and models leave. What’s left is the impression that the artist has of the original scene\, stripped of detail – a distillation of the subject. \nHer figurative work is often based on photos from her family’s history\, with memory and nostalgia playing important roles. This personal connection infuses her paintings with a depth of emotion and storytelling that resonates with viewers. \nIngrid is in demand as a workshop instructor both online and in person. She teaches online at The Winslow Art Center and has taught workshops in Canada\, Mexico\, and Italy\, working with painters from all over the world. Her goal is to inspire students with the wonder of the craft of painting\, making them look beyond the surface of their art to its rich\, inner depth – to the potential for painting to act as communication and self-discovery. \nIngrid wrote\, and was featured in\, several Winsor & Newton Masterclass videos filmed in London\, UK. Her art has won both national and international awards and has been highlighted in Modern Impressionist\, International Artist\, Avenues\, and Arabella magazines. She has also contributed articles on painting and creativity to Artsy Online Magazine. \nBased in Canada\, Ingrid’s work is represented in Canada and the US and is held in permanent public and private collections worldwide. \nTopic: Ingrid Christensen – Becoming the Artist You’re Meant to BeTime: Nov 19\, 2026 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada)Join Zoom Meetinghttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/89269822267?pwd=2hn1flRhlSqI23LoRu8IHSdrZfGXM5.1 \nMeeting ID: 892 6982 2267Passcode: 939996
