DESCRIPTION:This has been a unique\, difficult and challenging year for everyone on so many levels\, and artists have undoubtedly noticed the influence this pandemic has had on their own creativity and artistic output. Many of the world’s artists have been providing us with moving\, uplifting\, heart-wrenching and funny ways to get through this extraordinary time together.   \nPlease join us for our annual NAA Salon Zoom Event\, where we will address the topic of Art during the Pandemic. In particular\, we will focus on how this year has influenced or inspired our own artistic expression. In what ways\, if any\, has our focus shifted or our output changed? DESCRIPTION:Adria Arch is a visual artist\, instructor\, and art administrator. Her undergraduate studies included Rhode Island School of Design and Carnegie Mellon University. She received an MA in art education at the University of Arizona and an MFA in painting at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has taught at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum\, Montserrat College of Art\, Massachusetts College of Art\, and Endicott College. \nArch is represented in public and private collections including Fidelity Corporation\, deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum\, and the Library of Congress. She donates work to Boston non-profit social service agencies through the Art Connection. Her work may be viewed in Studio Visit Magazine 2010\, Open Studios Press.

DESCRIPTION:As a practicing artist and art workshop instructor\, Janet uses pastels\, oils\, and charcoal to explore the variation of light in nature and architecture. She is particularly drawn to the chaos and unexpected beauty of urban landscapes\, traffic and\, more recently\, ships and the shoreline. Janet brings a very personal and unique viewpoint to her work\, which dramatically captures the mood of her emotionally-charged subjects. \nShe currently divides her time working in corporate training\, teaching art\, and creating and exhibiting her work throughout New England. Her workshops focus on the importance of value and composition in painting.\n​\nJanet has a B.A in Art Education\, is a Master Pastelist of IAPS and a signature member of the PPSCC.

DESCRIPTION:I was a creative child who liked to sit at the dining room table and draw. I took art classes at the local library during the summer in the small\, rural village where I grew up\, in Southern New Hampshire. After high school I studied art in Boston and San Francisco\, where I earned a B.F.A. from the San Francisco Art Institute. \nI soon learned that I could not support myself and a new family as a fine artist\, so I went into education\, earned a M.Ed. and became a classroom teacher. After nine years\, I wanted to specialize my work with children. I earned a M.S. in communication disorders and worked as a Speech Language Pathologist before retiring in 2011. During those thirty-plus years I kept in touch with my creative side by taking art classes through various continuing education organizations. \nUpon retiring\, I promised myself that I would pursue art once again. I kept that promise and am an active artist in Newton. I am the past president and current exhibitions chairperson of the Newton Art Association and take classes at the New Art Center. I belong to several other art associations and actively exhibit my paintings.
