SUMMARY:Arts Marketing in a Changed World with Jessica Burko
DESCRIPTION:In this Professional Development Presentation\, Jessica will give us an overview of general arts marketing practices and how to develop and strengthen website content\, maximize Instagram strategies and use of email marketing. She will talk about the basics of what marketing means for artists and present pain-free ways you can market yourself and your art. The presentation will include an overview of branding concepts\, how to begin a marketing plan\, and what marketing materials are most important for you to develop as you create a path to your own success. \nJessica Burko has been an exhibiting artist since 1985 and has displayed work in solo and group shows throughout the United States. She holds a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Rhode Island School of Design\, and an MFA in Imaging Arts and Science from Rochester Institute of Technology. In addition to being a practicing artist\, Jessica is the Creative Director at the Photographic Resource Center\, Cambridge\, MA. She is also an independent curator with more than thirty exhibitions produced since 2000. Join Schön as she guides us through her philosophy and essential practices of looking\, describing\, and responding to what a piece evokes. Schön characterizes the goal of critique as “learning to look and looking to learn.” \nEllen Schön is Adjunct Faculty in Fine Arts and former Ceramics Studio Supervisor Lesley University College of Art and Design in Cambridge\, MA since 2002. She received a BA from Marlboro College (Ceramics and Perceptual Psychology) and MFA in Ceramics from Boston University’s Program in Artisanry. \nSchön has organized and co-curated interdisciplinary group exhibitions in non-profit venues in Boston and internationally. She has fostered international artist collaboration and exchange through participation in artist symposia and residencies in eight countries. \nSchön was a recipient of The Artist Foundation Fellowship from MA Council on Art and Humanities and past Artist Fellow at the St. Botolph Club in Boston. She is a member of the Boston Sculptors Gallery. Schön has exhibited widely in the US. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Fine Arts\, Boston and the Fuller Craft Museum\, Brockton\, MA.

O’Donnell at our second professional workshop. \nMr. O’Donnell is a Partner in the Litigation Department of Sullivan and the leader of the firm’s Art & Museum Law practice group. His practice focuses primarily on complex civil litigation\, where he has served as lead counsel on a variety of lawsuits concerning restitution and fine art sales and has advised museums\, dealers\, auction houses\, and collectors worldwide about restitution\, copyright\, and de-accessioning issues. He is Co-Chair of the Arts\, Cultural Institutions and Heritage Law Committee of the International Bar Association and a member of the New York City Bar Art Law Committee. Mr. O’Donnell is the author of numerous articles and papers on the subject of art disputes and regulation\, and the author of A Tragic Fate—Law and Ethics in the Battle Over Nazi Looted Art (2017)\, the first comprehensive overview of disputes in the U.S. over Nazi-looted art.

SUMMARY:Critique Zoom Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Forming a virtual critique group is an invaluable way to get together and share our work. Myra Abelson & Chippa Martin have been co-hosting NAA critique meetings for many years and have also been part of a small critique group that meets monthly. They will lead this workshop that is designed to help others understand the basics of forming a small critique group and the benefits of such an endeavor. \nSome of the topics we will address include optimal group size\, length and frequency of each meeting\, and rules of engagement. We will discuss how to give and ask for feedback for optimal gain. We will also show how Zoom and DropBox make virtual meetings successful.
