DEMO: Donna Calleja

Donna Calleja creates paintings that are inspired by her observation of light on fruit, shells and flowers from her home garden. She composes natural forms together for their shape, color and texture from direct observation and her imagination. She wants to interpret the beauty of light on natural forms and hopes to provide her viewers with a moment of quiet reflection.

Her painting process begins with a bold underpainting that defines a composition of light and shadow. With close observation she adds layers of color to build texture and detail. She loves the quiet process of seeing the details slowly emerge in her paintings.

Donna Calleja retired a few years ago from a rewarding career teaching art to high school students. She now loves teaching private adult painting classes and having more time to paint. Her paintings have been on display in recent shows at Nahcotta, Concord Art, E. Drumm Designs, Storefront Art Projects and The South Shore Art Center. Her paintings are created with acrylic paint on panel at her home studio in Watertown, MA.
