Artist Statement
I rediscovered the joyful spontaneity of drawing in 2024 after several decades. During the pandemic I photographed birds to connect more intimately with nature, the present moment and with myself. These images became references for colored pencil drawings. The more I observed and drew, the more I became fascinated with birds. They inspired me to explore other media, including painting, collage with hand painted and gelli printed papers, and block printing. My art practice is a mixture of play, meditation and experimentation and a celebration of our feathered friends with bold colors and patterns. I aspire to capture the essence, personalities and attitudes of these tiny yet mighty, fragile and fierce winged creatures that grace our world. I create at Gorse Mill Studios in Needham, MA.
