Artist Statement

Kate Carleton, a Fine Art Photographer and mixed media artist, is a member of: New England Art Gallery in Boston, the Newton Art Association, the Boston Camera Club and the Newton Camera Club. Her seascape and landscape series explore the ever changing light on sky and water, as well as the interplay of vibrant sunsets and mysterious fog with the viewer. Her intention is to express the myriad of unconscious emotions one feels at the ocean; the calming meditative reflections or the passion of clouds building with impending storms. Kate has studied painting with: Wolf Kahn, George Nick, Paul Rahilly, Ed Stitt, and spent a year studying art at the Prado Art Museum in Madrid. Her love of photography began in the family darkroom and expanded to color while working at the Aspen Design and Photography Studio. Recent photography awards include the Molly and Henry Schoenberg award for “Early Morning Light”, First Prize for “Embracing Winter Blues” at the Allen Center, First Prize for “When Art Takes Over Boston” at the Newton Library Show and juried acceptance into the Danforth Museum “Off the Wall Show”.
