hether you are an established artist, beginning artist, or art collector, the Newton Art Association offers a variety of activities to educate, exhibit, inspire, and encourage.
Membership is $40 a year, which funds diverse events and shows, as well as yearly scholarships for Newton high school seniors
The Newton Art Association is a community of more than 200 active artists and art enthusiasts, representing all branches of the visual arts, from drawing to sculpture. The majority of members live in Newton, with many more from Boston, Brookline, and New Hampshire. The term of NAA membership runs from July 1 to the following June 30, at which time one must renew to remain current. Only members in good standing may participate in art exhibits.
The Association presents monthly demonstrations by professional artists from New England on the second Thursday of the month, from September to May, which are free and open to the public.
The Association conducts at least two major exhibits a year, showcasing the work of up to 80 members: the Annual Awards Show, held at the Newton Free Library, and the James King Bonnar Awards Show, funded and established by the family of the founder of the association. Additional exhibit spaces are available throughout the year, and special events such as the year-end soiree, art critique evenings, workshops, and discussion salons bring members together for constructive and social exchanges.
