Artist statement:
Always an admirer of art, I launched my career as a mixed media artist after becoming a mother. After over years of classes and experimentation, I now focus on wearable art and wall art constructed almost exclusively of fiber and beads. Drawn to fabric and beads by the vibrant colors and textures available, I am constantly exploring and celebrating the ways that color and form interact. I enjoy mixing whimsy with introspection, order with chaos. Some pieces have been inspired by a moment in history or commissioned to honor an individual or sentiment. By printing on fabric and then manipulating and making collages of fabrics to achieve a multilayered effect, I can incorporate both my drawings and photography in my pieces. I then embellish them with beadwork, paint, and hand and machine stitching. With my wearable art, I employ multiple original and traditional beading techniques, mixed with fabric and/or thread to create unique, but modern and comfortable jewelry.
