Margo Volterra

Artist statement:
I make art because from early on, I knew I wanted to be an artist. Having attended The Art Student's League, I was the only kid surrounded by adults. Very intimidating. My parents always encouraged my creativity, and growing up in New York City certainly offered plenty of opportunities. Majoring in painting at Boston University, I received a BFA and worked with some very special professors. They fostered the belief of pushing the envelope. Figure drawing was basic and on-going. Abstract painting was at its zenith. Using acrylics, pen and ink with color washes or mixed media, I move from portraits to special themes to abstract concepts. I'm never bored. Figure drawing is important to keep one's eye sharp and hand nimble. I like to keep my work fresh and compelling. My aim is to present a different perspective to the world, fusing wonder and movement throughout my work. Bringing out raw emotion and creativity is a priority for me.
