Artist statement:
I paint primarily from nature because I enjoy the feeling of being outside in every season, noticing changes in color, light and texture. New England-- particularly Cape Cod, the North Shore of Massachusetts and mid-coast Maine-- is my inspiration. No two days are ever the same. There is a spontaneity and immediacy of feel that can be captured on location, “alla prima,” with direct observation. I occasionally paint still life, but these also remain within the theme of nature. The colors and textures of fruits and vegetables have their own fascination and provide wonderful displays of color and texture. This year I began painting with pastels as well as oils and that has given my work a whole new dimension since I love color. I also had the pleasure of painting in Provence, France in lavender season. I have studied with Alex Dobkin, Ed Stitt, David P. Curtis, Leo Mancini-Hresko and Judy Ryan . My work is in private collections throughout New England.
